As many of you know, we lost a dear friend today. Carolyn Cartee passed away peacefully this morning at the age of 69. I thought I would share the story of how she and Elizabeth Cartee met. Elizabeth (Beth) has been our friend for 20 or so years. In October 2012, Beth was living in Chicago and came out here to visit us in San Diego for a few weeks. We had a group camping trip planned to Joshua Tree, so of course I asked Beth if she wanted to join us. The first thing she asked was - "Is your friend Carolyn Lebo (that was her name then) going too?" I said "How do you know about Carolyn?" She said "I saw her on your FB friend list, and she sure is easy on the eyes." I said, "As a matter of fact, yes, she'll be on the trip." The next thing I know, they are texting each other, calling each other, and chomping at the bit to meet in person. So, Beth arrives and the next night they have a "date." And the next, and the next ... of course, being lesbians, a U-Haul was rented shortly thereafter and they were inseparable ever since. They had just 3 1/2 years together, but they lived and loved well. Here is a picture of them nestled like love birds in the rocks of Joshua Tree.
